Do I need a boaters license? In Maryland, the law states that anyone born on or after July 1, 1972, must possess a certificate of boating safety education in order to operate any motorized vessel. This certificate is non-renewable and must be carried by the student at all times while operating a vessel. Officers may or may not ask to see the certificate during a vessel check and, if not provided, you can be charged with a minimum of $25 for the first offense and up to $500 for each offense thereafter. What boating experience do I need? Substantial. We have made a significant investment in our yachts and require competence in boat handling and navigation. gladly train you on all aspects of boating to prepare you for having fun on the Chesapeake.
Do I have to wear a life vest? Not on our boats. Effective June 1, 2001, Maryland law states that all children under the age of 7 must WEAR a United States Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (life jacket - Type I, II, III or V) while underway on a recreational vessel under 21 feet in length on Maryland waters. This requirement does not apply when: * A vessel is moored or anchored. * A child is below deck or in an enclosed cabin.
Can I board the night before? In most cases we can accommodate your request to board the night before after 8PM.
What navigation equipment does the boat have? All boats come complete with VHF radio and color GPS/chart plotter. Also, a Chesapeake Bay chart book comes with each boat.
What safety equipment do the boats have? All boats include USCG recommended safety equipment including 8 or more PFD's, 1 of more fire extinguishers (depending on size), distress flares and horn, first aid kit.
Do the boats have a TV and stereo? Shelby has a 15" TV DVD Player, Witchcraft has a 15" TV with built in DVD player. Shelby and Witchcraft both have three movies as well as CD's for the stereo, feel free to bring your own too. Boats also come with a deck of playing cards and board games.
What should I bring? The boat includes supplies such as toilet paper, coffee filters, paper towels, cleaners, and hand soap. Each boat also has plates, cups, pots, pans, and utensils for 4. You should bring queen sized sheets, bath towels, food, clothing, beach towels, toiletries, books, magazines, CD's, fishing poles, etc...
Can I fish on the boat? Yes, each boat is equipped with a current fishing license.
What is the bridge clearance of Shelby VI? Shelby VI will fit under bridges 22 feet or higher with the VHF antenna down. If you have any doubts DON'T DO IT!
